UIMO runs on two separate tracks and they are not alternatives to each other. The 11 December paper is the school paper, written on school premises, and a school can only enter students for that one date — Unified Council publishes no second offline date for 2026-27. UIMO-online is a different sitting in January that a family enters directly; the 3 January date is its practice run, not the exam. Unified Council does not publish an application cutoff for either track.
Registration: For the December school paper, the school is the only route in: Unified Council states plainly that the venue is the school itself, that there is no open-centre facility, and that it does not accept individual application forms for UIMO. The school sends one consolidated list and demand draft; the fee is ₹150 per student. Because no cutoff is published, the honest advice is to ask your coordinator in October rather than work backwards from December. If your school does not run UIMO at all, you are not locked out — UIMO-online on 10 January takes direct registrations from families at ₹354 including GST, is written at home on a laptop with a webcam, and uses the same Classes 6 to 10 paper structure.
The deadline is set by your school, not by you
Most parents find the exam date and assume they have until then. The registration window closes long before it, and for some papers it has already started closing. Here is how it actually works.
- Your school registers your child and your school picks which of the 2–3 dates the class sits. The family does not choose.
- For SOF papers, registrations must reach SOF exactly 30 days before that chosen date — and once the school has chosen, the date cannot be changed.
- CREST is the exception: it registers students directly, online, with no school involved. It is the one body a parent can act on alone.

Exam pattern
How the UIMO paper is structured
| Section | Questions | Marks per question | Section total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics - 1 (single correct answer) | 30 | 1 | 30 |
| Mathematics - 2 (multiple correct answers, Q31-35) | 5 | 3 | 15 |
| Logical Reasoning | 10 | 1 | 10 |
| Critical Thinking | 5 | 1 | 5 |
| Total | 50 questions | — | 60 marks · 60 minutes |
The paper is 50 questions for 60 marks — the extra 10 marks come from Mathematics-2, where each of the five questions is worth 3. Unified Council states that every question is objective-type with no negative marking for a wrong answer, so a blank scores exactly what a wrong answer scores: nothing. It publishes no current-year versus previous-year split for UIMO, unlike SOF, so treat the whole Class 6 book as live.

Two things about this paper are worth more than the chapter list. First, Mathematics-2 is not a harder version of Mathematics-1 — it is a different question type. Five questions, numbered 31 to 35, have more than one correct option (two, three or four of them can be right), and a child has to darken every correct one on the OMR sheet to earn the 3 marks. That format barely appears in school tests, and it is 15 of the 60 marks. Second, five topics that Class 6 olympiad papers still draw on are not in the 2026-27 Ganita Prakash book at all: Roman numerals, ratio and proportion with the unitary method, the introduction to algebraic expressions, simple one-variable equations, and the recognition of 3-D solids and their faces, edges and vertices. All five sat in the previous Class 6 NCERT; all five are in our own curator taxonomy's legacy bucket precisely because olympiads kept them. Our Class 6 maths practice keeps them in scope. Separately, Logical Reasoning (10 marks) and Critical Thinking (5 marks) are their own spine — a quarter of the paper that no maths chapter feeds.
